Braces: Cost, Process, Appointments, and Treatment Length Explained

Braces are an active appliance that can completely transform your smile, confidence, and oral function. At Beachside Orthodontics, we often receive questions about the cost, process, frequency of appointments, and how long treatment takes. Let’s clear up some of these common queries!

Cost

The cost of braces varies depending on your individual treatment needs. Factors such as impacted teeth, severe crowding, the need for extractions or jaw surgery, and additional techniques like temporary anchorage devices can all affect the overall cost. On average, treatment ranges from $7,000 to $12,000.

"We believe transparency is essential," says Dr Steve Moate. "After your initial consultation, we provide a detailed, customised treatment plan so you know exactly what to expect—no hidden surprises."

To make treatment more accessible, we also offer interest-free payment plans with monthly instalments, helping to ease financial stress.

Process

Following your initial consultation with our friendly orthodontist, we will digitally design your treatment and have your braces custom-made to fit your teeth precisely. At your banding appointment, our Oral Health Therapist will gently polish your teeth to remove any soft plaque. Your braces are then carefully placed on each tooth, the wires are configured for your arches, and elastic ties are secured around each bracket.

Our team will guide you through brushing techniques and which foods to avoid to prevent breakages. The orthodontist will then review your braces, marking the official start of your treatment journey.

Appointments

Patients usually visit every 8–12 weeks for wire changes, progressing through about four different wires during their treatment. Provided there are no bracket breakages, wire irritations, or other issues, most patients require around seven visits in total. Additional appointments may be needed for spacing concerns, impacted teeth, or if extra procedures are planned.

Length of Treatment

The duration of braces treatment depends on your specific orthodontic goals and complexity. Mild or straightforward cases can often be completed in about 12 months, while more involved cases typically take 12–18 months to achieve optimal results.

"It’s incredibly rewarding to see the transformation in our patients—not just in their teeth but in their self-confidence," Dr Moate explains.

By addressing these frequently asked questions, we hope to bring clarity and confidence to your orthodontic journey. For more information or to book a consultation, contact Beachside Orthodontics today — we’re here to help you achieve a smile you’ll love.
